High Performance Features

Cesar Chavez Elementary School was sited in a great location. Students are able to walk to school or take advantage of public transportation systems. Joint-use agreements allow the City of Long Beach to utilize the school's gymnasium and outdoor hardcourts to support recreational programs for the community. The buildings on the campus are 34% more efficient than Title 24-2001 baseline standards. The school achieved this target by using a cool roof, efficient lighting systems and through taking advantage of daylight and natural ventilation. This project also chose materials that were environmentally resonsive. Materials were chosen with high recycled content and that were low-emmitting to improve indoor air quality.
