Free Scholarships Available for Operations Report Card

Recipient Schools to Receive Free One-Year ORC Registration

March 27, 2013 (Sacramento, Calif.) The Collaborative for High Performance Schools® (CHPS) is offering scholarships to K-12 schools for free access to the CHPS Operations Report Card™, a web-based tool that schools and districts can use to evaluate their campuses along seven key performance metrics and create data-driven campus improvement plans that save operating dollars. Support for the scholarships was provided by Trane, a leading global provider of indoor comfort systems and solutions and a brand of Ingersoll Rand.

Schools can apply for scholarships using the online application form.

“The Collaborative for High Performance Schools believes that a true green schools movement starts with existing schools. With more than 130,000 existing schools out there, the Operations Report Card is the best chance we have to understand the conditions of our existing schools and improve them,” said Bill Orr, executive director of CHPS. “Thanks to the national support by Trane, we are thrilled to be able to offer scholarships for the ORC to schools everywhere.”

The web-based ORC guides schools through several benchmarking steps, including gathering school-wide building and systems data, conducting an occupant survey, collecting classroom measurements, completing ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager and performing water fixture and waste audits. Schools that complete the process receive a report card of their buildings’ performance as an easy-to-understand score and actionable, outcome-oriented improvement recommendations.

CHPS is offering a limited number of scholarships for free ORC registrations. Scholarships will be awarded on a rolling basis.

The scholarship application process is simple - ORC scholarship recipients must agree to: complete the ORC within a year of being awarded; borrow, rent or purchase required monitoring equipment and complete data collection process using school or district personnel and resources; and participate in a press release with scholarship sponsor. Other requirements can be found on the CHPS ORC Scholarship webpage:

The ORC evaluates seven metrics for healthy, cost-effective, high performance learning environments, including indoor air quality, energy efficiency, visual quality, acoustics, thermal comfort, water conservation, and waste reduction.
