View this newsletter online September 2009 Colorado CHPS Takes Green Schools to New Heights September 22, 2009 (San Francisco, CA) The Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS) made a new assessment tool for green schools in Colorado available for public use. The tool, called the Colorado CHPS Criteria (CO-CHPS), is a state-specific benchmark system for the design and construction of high performance school buildings in Colorado that are energy efficient, comfortable, environmentally responsible and healthy spaces of learning. "CHPS is here to help Colorado create the best possible schools. With the CO-CHPS Criteria, we combine a uniquely customized building standard created specifically for Colorado schools with a robust national organization that will support the work that will go on in Colorado,” said Bill Orr, executive director of CHPS. "We look forward to the schools and districts of Colorado taking advantage of all CHPS has to offer.” A free download of CO-CHPS is available here. Back to school is an exciting time at CHPS. I have much spent time over my first two months talking to representatives from all of the CHPS states to learn about your local priorities, activities, issues, events, and high performance school targets. Most CHPS states either have just finished or soon will finish an update to their state’s CHPS Criteria. Also, we are excited to kick off Colorado CHPS this month. In addition, as part of CHPS goal to complete the transition from a regional organization to national program, one of my objectives is to visit all of the CHPS states during my first year as Executive Director. To that end I will be hitting the road at the beginning of October to meet with CHPS champions, key stakeholders, and top state officials in Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Connecticut, and Rhode Island and finally participate in the next CHPS Board of Directors meeting from New York. I look forward to meeting many of you in person soon.
