For compliance with CA-CHPS CL1.1.3 CL1.1: Climate Change Action encourages the use of measures that reduce school contributions to greenhouse gas emissions from school design and construction projects. The CHPS community believes that all schools should be making steps to reducing emissions of greenhouse (GHG) gases (CO2, CH4, N2O, HFCs, PFCs, and SF6) that contribute to global warming. Understanding and monitoring emissions can be a powerful tool to reducing waste and inefficiency. A school’s contribution to climate change begins with the impact of materials and resources used in the construction, or modernization of the school. It continues through the operation of building systems, and transportation choices to and from school. The goal of the CHPS School/District Transportation Plan is to create a 3 year program to reduce peak hour trips and GHG emissions by 25% for the first year, 50% for the second year and 75% for the third year. Projects seeking points for CL1.1.3 should complete the Transportation Plan Template and submit it with their project documentation. |
