Green Products Database Program Intern

CHPS administers a variety of programs to promote “greener”, sustainable, more efficient and healthier schools. CHPS is seeking an Intern to assist in these activities. All positions are based at the CHPS office in San Francisco, CA.

Duties and Responsibilities:
CHPS seeks a dynamic self-starter who wants to dive into a challenging and interesting green marketing project. New to the CHPS suite of tools is the CHPS High Performance Products Database. One of the only tools of its kind, the database allows users to find products that meet stringent high performance standards, such as low-VOC content, recycled material, rapidly renewable material, and organic materials. The database has the support of the US Environmental Protection Agency, which funded its development.

The right candidate could come from a variety of backgrounds – business, marketing, engineering, sales, communications, or simply have an interest in one of these fields. They will be involved in the roll-out of the database (it is currently in its beta phase) and will gain experience in bringing this product to market as CHPS attempts to position the database in the growing green products field. Students with an interest in social entrepreneurship should especially apply, as CHPS is looking to build a solid-revenue stream from the Database, as a method of funding our other mission-critical programs.

The intern will be a member of the CHPS Team and will perform duties under the Senior Programs Manager. The intern will primarily provide support for the CHPS Product Database, a database for green products, including (but not limited to) the following activities:

• Assist in the development of a comprehensive business plan, including analysis of the green building product market.
• Assess the experience of front- and back-end users of the database and recommend improvements
• Assist in the development of a comprehensive outreach plan
• Help develop and deploy outreach materials (including publications and training videos)
• Provide support in producing reports and support documentation for various technical projects
• Beta test web applications to ensure they perform as expected
• Participate in technical committee meetings regarding the database

Education, Experience and Skills Required:
• Undergraduate enrolled in a four-year college degree program; preferably a Junior or Senior with background in business, communications/marketing, engineering, architecture, environmental science or studies, policy and management or related field.
• Strong interest and enthusiasm for environmental issues, sustainable building or children’s health and education.
• Self-starter attitude; can work independently.
• Work or internship experience performing similar duties and responsibilities as outlined above a plus, but not required.
• Knowledge of and experience with green building / sustainable practices a plus, but not required.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Required: candidate must bring their own laptop computer for use during the internship.

Time Commitment:
The internship will be at the CHPS office in downtown San Francisco (near the Montgomery BART Station). Candidates who can commit to a three-month long post (or longer) are preferred. Intern must commit to at least eight (8) hours a week, up to full-time. We are flexible on the days of the week. Candidates with more time availability will be given priority. A stipend may be available. Position to start immediately. Summer internship position also available (please specify in your cover letter).
