Low-Emitting Materials (LEM) Table

This table lists products that have been certified by its manufacturer and an independent laboratory to meet the CHPS Low-Emitting Materials criteria-Section 01350-for use in a typical classroom as described in a CA Department of Health Services (CDHS) Standard Practice. A school that specifies and installs the materials listed below qualifies for points under Indoor Environmental Quality Credit EQ2.2. CHPS EQ2.2 credits are not currently available for cabinetry and classroom desks and chairs as they are not covered by the CDHS Standard Practice. Some listed products also count towards earning points for the CHPS Recycled Content credit (Materials Credit 4) prescriptive approach.

Specifying Compliant Products

This is not an exclusive list- other products may also qualify. School districts may specify compliant products that are not currently on the list. CHPS has determined that the certification and industry labeling programs listed here follow the CDHS Standard Practice or an acceptable alternative defined in the Practice. CHPS has not reviewed and does not endorse any test methods or claims by these organizations outside of the scope of the CDHS criteria.*

[*CHPS EQ2.2 credits are offered for products meeting testing method and emission limits criteria defined in the CDHS Standard Practice. Products may be certified to CHPS EQ 2.2 criteria by third-party organizations, provided that their methods match the CDHS Standard Practice or a CHPS-approved acceptable alternative. Third-party test methods and evaluations outside of the scope of the CHPS criteria - such as phthalates, total particles, or include different emission limits - are not assessed nor endorsed by CHPS. ]

If individual components of the assembly do not meet Section 01350, then the system can be tested in assembly. School districts cannot count adhesives separate from flooring materials as distinct CHPS IEQ Credit 2 points.
